The winter months in Ontario can be tough for some but it doesn’t have to be. Planning ahead in this beautiful snowy season can make it fun, uplifting and overall, a very enjoyable time of year. It is the perfect time to try out something new, visit nearby towns to take in the lights, or start new traditions with family and friends.
Here’s our tips to avoid the winter blues and LIVe well:
- Get outside Hear us out. The most important step in dealing with this season we call winter is embracing it. Bundle up and go for a walk. It will not only give you a major energy boost, it may even give you a new appreciation for the beauty of the season. While you’re out there, why not attend the Holiday Carnival in the City of Brantford which is less than 10 minutes away from our Sienna Woods community. If that doesn’t brighten up your mood, the Brantford Lights at Glenhyrst Art Gallery down the street sure will!
- Get out of your comfort zone Ski, skate, go ice fishing, tobogganing, or any one of dozens of activities you could do near our Serenity Bay community in Orillia. You may have enough fun to forget about the warmer months.
- Maintain your social life Stay connected with friends and family. Social outings or regular visits and calls with family and friends are key to help you fend off seasonal turns of mood.
- Eat healthy During winter, it is important to ensure you’re eating a balanced diet. There are plenty of delicious, healthy winter recipes that will keep full and happy. Make sure you are also taking your daily dose of Vitamin D, which would normally come from the sun, and Omega 3 fatty acids which are proven to boost your mood among other benefits.
- Get enough sleep With shorter days, it is important to get enough sleep. While most people believe curling up and blasting the heat is the best way to a peaceful night’s rest, research shows sleeping at a cool temperature may be better for you. It is said to improve melatonin levels, prevent insomnia, enhance your mood, and reduce your stress levels.
And if none of that is working for you, there’s always Arizona.
At LIV, we know that home is your refuge, the place you go to feel good. We hope some of these steps help you make the most of the Canadian winter ahead.
