Family Fun Ideas - Winter Edition

Published on Feb 1, 2022

We’ve previously discussed how to ward off the blues during the long, cold winters in Ontario. One suggestion was to go outside and actually enjoy the weather.

The calming white scenery, fresh air, and the thrill of the outdoors. Now that the kids are spending most of their time at home, we suggest getting outside of your warm and comfortable LIV home and plan your next alfresco activity.

Here are just some of the many COVID-friendly winter activities that are fun for the whole family.

Sledding

Nothing will bring back memories of childhood like that exhilarating rush you experience when sliding down a big snowy hill with a helmet of course. Brantford, Ontario offers some great sledding hills from smaller, shallow hills to steeper alpine hills. Check out some of the town’s best sledding locations:

  • Farringdon Park: 51 Belholme Cres.
  • Ross McDonald School: 350 Brant Ave.
  • Arrow Golf Course: 282 Stanley Street.
Hiking

Hiking

Orillia & Lake Country is known for its exceptional hiking trails that turn into wonderlands in the winter. Grant’s Woods Trail Loop, located in Severn, is a 2.3-kilometer loop trail with trees up to 200 years old. It’s also pet-friendly as long as they are on a leash.

Skating

Ice Skating

Did you know that Brantford is the hometown of the legendary Wayne Gretzky? Hit up some of the best Brantford skating rinks and, who knows, maybe someone in your family will become the next great one.

  • Anne Good Park Rink: 50 Allensgate Dr, Brantford
  • Harmony Square Outdoor Ice Rink: 89 Dalhousie St, Brantford
Snowmobiling

Snowmobiling

Take part in the fastest winter activity with a guided tour through Orillia & Lake Country. The tour departs from base camp and travels to the Trent Severn Waterway National Historic Site, The Swift Rapids, Lock 43, and the Severn River.
