One of the best parts of living in Muskoka, Gravenhurst is the long list of scenic spots to enjoy in the fall and winter. We have put together a list of four picturesque places to take photos and enjoy the many waterways of the area.
-
Peninsula Trail
This lovely trail system brings you along the shoreline of Lake Muskoka and is known for the Children’s Memorial Gazebo - a special spot for memorializing loved ones with breathtaking views of the Muskoka Wharf at one of the highest points on the trail.
Don’t fret about your fitness level here, with just a few stairs and some uneven natural earth, it can definitely be slotted in for a relaxing day.
-
Walker’s Point
It may be a short trail, but the views definitely won’t disappoint. The way up is a bit rocky, which will no doubt leave you with great appreciation for the Canadian Shield. From the 30 metre, above-ground vantage point, you can bask in views of Muskoka Lakes while sitting in iconic Muskoka chairs that reside at this spot year-round.
-
Huckleberry Rock
If you’re a fan of watching the sun set, you definitely need to make your way to Huckleberry Rock in nearby Bracebridge. The journey to the lookout is a bit longer than most in the area at just under one hour long. You’ll be led through some wooded area at first, and eventually to an amazing overlook of Lake Muskoka and exposed pink bedrock, said to be approximately 4.6 billion years old. Locals say that its best enjoyed in the fall and early winter off-season when bugs lay dormant and there are fewer hikers visiting.
-
Lion’s Lookout
According to numerous reviews, this may be the best lookout point in the Muskoka area, even though it’s not really considered a hiking trail. If you prefer to take a short walk for views and photo ops, this is perfect for you! Be prepared for a steep climb to make it to the spectacular lookout, which is well worth the extra, short stint of cardio. This area can be a bit busy (especially on weekends) due to the view’s popularity. If you visit on a rainy day, or during winter months, make sure to wear proper footwear for the walk to the top!
